CALLING ALL ARTISTS: LAMBERTVILLE STATION NOW ACCEPTING ENTRIES FOR SILVER ANNIVERSARY ART SHOW, OCTOBER 25, 2007

Lambertville Station Restaurant Commemorates 25 Years on the Delaware River in Oil, Watercolor and Mixed Media

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. (July 2007) – Brushes ready! All this year, Lambertville Station Restaurant in historic Lambertville, N.J., is celebrating 25 years of fine dining on the Delaware River. At the pinnacle of the celebration, the restaurant will host a Silver Anniversary Art Show and exhibit, Thursday, October 25, 2007, designed to commemorate the station’s rich history. Artists residing within 100 miles of Lambertville are invited to submit original oil, watercolor and mixed media works portraying the historic building, for display in a juried exhibition. A total $2,500 in cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show and top entries across each genre. Twenty percent of all sale proceeds, along with an in-kind $2,500 donation from Lambertville Station, will benefit the James A. Michener Art Museum.

“Now in our 25th year, we were looking for a special way to commemorate the restaurant’s great success and the building’s storied history,” said Dan Whitaker, co-owner of Lambertville Station. “A Silver Anniversary Art Show presented itself as the perfect celebration for this art-savvy community, as many artists have already drawn inspiration from the restaurant building and the Lambertville Waterfront. We look forward to welcoming artists from across the region, and inviting the community to share in this wonderful celebration in art,” he said.

The Subject

Lambertville Station Restaurant has been serving up a rich tradition of classic American cuisine for 25 years, but the building itself actually celebrates a much longer history, stretching back nearly 150 years to the glory days of the railroad. A restored 19th-century train station, the two-and-a-half story stone building was created in 1865 by Thomas Ustick Walter—the renowned architect who designed the dome of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.—and once served as the headquarters of the Belvidere Delaware Railroad. Owners Dan Whitaker, Rose DiMarco, Michael Dougherty and Skip DiMarco purchased the property in 1982 and began the restaurant conversion. The exterior of the building was totally restored to its original beauty; the interior is an elegant blend of yesterday and today, with etched glass, polished oak, brass and antiques.

A centerpiece of the town, now and then, Lambertville Station has transitioned from a hub for travelers to a high-traffic zone for foodies year-round.

To Enter

Artists residing within 100 miles of Lambertville, N.J., are invited to submit original oil, watercolor and mixed media works for consideration, no later that October 12, 2007. Works may not exceed 25 x 30”, framed and wired.

In preparation for the show, Lambertville Station Restaurant is inviting artists to set up canvas on site at the Lambertville Waterfront and paint Plein Air. For an aerial perspective of the property, artists have permission to paint from the Newport-Lambertville bridge. Previous works are also permitted.

Please send a brief artist biography and photograph of the work c/o Dina Hicks, Lambertville Station, 11 Bridge Street, Lambertville, N.J. 08530. Electronic images are also accepted, in JPEG format, at dina@lambertvillestation.com. Please note: photographs will not be returned.

From the entries, 50 works across all three genres will be selected for the exhibit by an expert panel of judges. Artists will be notified by October 19 if their work has been selected. A non-refundable $40 entry fee is required to exhibit.

The Expert Panel

Guest judges Janet Marsh Hunt, Director of the Coryell Gallery in Lambertville, N.J.; H. Brent Souder, of Alderfers Auction House; and Erika Jaeger-Smith, Associate Curator at James A. Michener Art Museum, know good art when they see it. Hunt comes from a well-known and distinguished family in the art world: both her mother and father were among the founders of the Hunterdon Museum of Art in Clinton, N.J, and her uncle Reginald Marsh taught drawing and painting classes at the Art Students League in New York City, where Hunt studied. As director of the Coryell Gallery since 1981, Hunt has gone on to represent some of the most prominent artists in the Delaware Valley.

Director of Fine and Decorative Arts at Alderfers, Brent Souder has been in the auction business since 1983. He attended the Mendenhall School of Auctioneering and is a graduate of the certified Auctioneer’s Institute, with expertise in art, period furniture, porcelain and silver, and Americana. He has served as president of the Pennsylvania Auctioneer’s Association, and is active in the Lehigh Valley Society of Auctioneers and the National Auctioneer’s Association.

Jaeger-Smith, Associate Curator of Exhibitions at James A. Michener Art Museum, has extensive experience as both curator and project manager. For more than 10 years, she has researched and published the work of historic and contemporary artists of Bucks County and the surrounding regions, and has documented much of her research in American Art Review, and as a contributing writer to several publications including Pennsylvania Impressionism (2002). She has curated numerous exhibitions at the Michener, including recently, Poetry In Design: The Art of Harry Leith-Ross (2006-07). She also served as a guest curator for the Morris Art Museum (2001) and the Phillips’ Mill Art Association (2005).

Having already narrowed the field to 50, the trio will be eyeing up the competition on October 25 to determine the top four representations of Lambertville Station Restaurant. Best in Show will be awarded $1,000; best Oil, Watercolor and Mixed Media, $500 each.

The Exhibition and Sale

From 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on October 25, family, friends and art enthusiasts are invited to peruse the 50 works on display in the Riverside Ballroom, located at the Inn at Lambertville Station. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Lambertville Station Restaurant, to showcase its classic American menu. Winners will be announced at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for the show are $10, and benefit the James A. Michener Art Museum. Exhibiting artists will receive two complimentary tickets to the show, for themselves and a guest.

All works of art are available for purchase that night, with 20 percent of all proceeds benefiting the James A. Michener Art Museum. Lambertville Station will also contribute $2,500 to the Michener Museum.
